Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits

Valerie Converse

2 Cups Flour

1/8 cup sugar

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 cup cold butter cut into pieces

2/3 cup buttermilk

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a bowl combine flour, sugar, soda, powder and salt. Cut in the butter pieces with a pastry blender or 2 knives. The mixture should look like coarse crumbs. Then add buttermilk and stir until dough just comes together. Roll dough out on a floured surface about 1 1/4 inches thick. Then cut dough into circles. Place on a baking sheet or stone so that the biscuits are close and just touching each other. Brush with melted butter and bake 20-25 minutes. Remove from oven and brush with more melted butter. Makes about 10 biscuits.
