Fingerpaints

Soap Fingerpaint

Fingerpaints can be used on fingerpaint paper, butcher paper, washable shelf paper, oil cloth, formica or enamel table tops, etc. If you are feeling frivolous, paint with buttermilk, instant pudding, or fabric softener.

2 cups boiling water

1 ½ cups liquid starch

2 ¼ cups soap flakes

Food coloring

Combine boiling water and starch in a bowl. Add soap flakes. Mix thoroughly. Add food coloring of your choice) or put mixture in several small jars to have a selection of colors). Refrigerate to cool before using. To store and to keep fresh, cover and refrigerate. Yields one quart.


Cornstarch Fingerpaint

2 cups water

¼ cup cornstarch

Food coloring

Bring water to a boil. Add small amount of water to cornstarch and blend together to make a paste. Gradually add paste to boiled water, stirring well. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Add food coloring of your choice. Cool. Mixture will thicken as it cools. Yields 2 cups


Salt and Flour Fingerpaint

1 cup flour

1 ½ cups salt

¾ cup hot water

Food coloring

Sift flour and slat. Stir into hot water. Add food coloring of your choice. Yields approximately 2 cups.
